I am a single adoptive father and I thank my son’s birth mother for choosing life and giving me the opportunity to love and raise a child as my own.

To give your child life and the best chance to be who God created him or her to be, while taking yourself out of the picture so that could happen, has to be the bravest act of love anyone could have. It is putting your child’s welfare above your own needs and desires. Choosing adoption for your child is the total opposite choice of women who say their abortion was right for them, for whatever reason. You are saying that you would never put your child’s life below your own. You chose what is best for your child, above what you felt was best for you. This is truly selfless love that enables both you and your child to grow into the people God made you to be. God bless you for this brave love. This courageous, self giving, self sacrificing love.

I am so grateful for the brave choice my daughter’s mother made to choose life.

My son came to me by the Brave Love of his birth parents, Kim and Steve. They allowed me the privilege of being a Mom and HeartMommy. I am forever grateful for their amazing grace. We have an open adoption and my son, now 13 yrs old, has the beautiful experience of knowing both his parents, grandparents and siblings. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I adopted both of my kids. I wouldn’t have these sweet children in my life without their birth moms making that tough decision.

I know that adoption is a brave and selfless choice because my daughter was adopted February 1968, there is not a day goes by that you won’t think of your baby. It will be the most loving thing you could do to put your baby needs above your own.

We have four sons, and didn’t know that something was missing in our world until We met her. I have you to thank for that. Every time my heart swells, I hurt for the many times your heart has ached. But let me just tell you – you are brave, you are courageous, you are noble. I honor you today on Mother’s Day.

I’m not a birth mom nor an adoptive mom. Im a grandmother. My daughter is the birth mom. She is the strongest woman i know. My granson is happy and he completed their faimly. His Mom (adoptive mom) is beautiful, loving, caring and strong. To these two Moms, well, they taught this grandma a lesson on life. And i thank them both. It wasn’t easy to accept at first. When he was born God showed me he was hers. He was meant for her. My daughter is the strongest woman i know. I’m always proud of her.

A dear friend of mine has three wonderful boys whom she and her husband adopted. My daughter is also planning to adopt. If you have placed your child for adoption you are the most unselfish person I can thing of. You love your baby enough to disregard your own wishes and feelings and do what is right for your child. I wish more people were like you. And none of this is to say that you would not make a great mom – but maybe right now the circumstances do not allow you to do that.

As an adoptee and a mom whose family grew by adopting, I was lucky to meet my son’s birthmom so I could share with him that he was always loved. I made a book with photos from visits with her. I wish there was time to learn more about her.

On this Mothers Day , as in years past, I am so thankful to the birthmoms of both of my girls….. Thankful for the difficult decisions they made to not only “choose life” for their babies but to then place them in the care of another by making adoption plans for each of them…….my heart is full of love for these brave women wherever they are in their life journey…… Without even knowing them or never having met since both of our adoptions were closed when we adopted their girls at birth, they will always be an integral part of our family and am forever grateful to each woman, each birthmom , who made it possible for me to be a mom today some almost 18 years later! So today I share this mothers day with these amazing and brave moms who gave my daughters life and all birthmom a around the world!

I’m an adoptive mom, and we have an open adoption with both birth parents. We are SO, SO, SO grateful and amazed at how this journey has been. Having the birth parents in our lives is a huge blessing. I think birth mothers are true HEROINES, and I hope that the possibility of an open adoption makes the loss a little easier to bear. My husband and I are parents to 8-month-old twins, whom we adopted at birth. Their birth mother’s decision to place her son and daughter with us is the greatest gift of our lives. We love her deeply and consider her our friend and hero!!

As an adoptive mom, my heart swells with gratitude for the gift of my children. I cannot imagine what a hard choice that must have been. Thank you!

As an older mom at 43, I wanted my baby to have siblings her own age. With me she would have had older siblings but as I was an older now single mother, she would also have done without many things due to finances, etc. It was a tough decision, but I wanted only the best for my precious little girl. To this day, I know I made the right decision, although she hates me for it. She had brothers and sisters who are now very close in birth and love. She never had to do without anything. I kept all her baby things to give to her someday, because I loved her so much. It is difficult to see that at 24, and me in my late 60’s, that she can’t forgive and understand how much love it takes to give up something you hold so dear to your heart. I can only hope that someday she will appreciate what she has now, and let go of the resentment she feels for what she would have had we me growing up. She would have had love, I have lots of that to give everyone, but she would not have had the closeness of other siblings her age. Now she could have all of that combined, if she could just let go. She was raised by her older brother so we could all be one big family, together, but it did not work out the way I planned. I just could not totally give her up and still can’t today. I stayed close until she Baca me a teenager and then she pulled away. Her feelings are valid, “How was I the only one you gave away, why?” We have all tried to explain to no avail. It hurts so much, but I try to go on and help others and make up for it in other ways. I would give my life for her, as I would for all of my children. She is no less important than any of them. Every Mother’s and her birthday, I cry. The last time, several years ago that I sent her a card, she asked me not to. I see her at family get together but everyone can feel the tension although she tries to act in front of others, that everything is ok. She subtly puts me down and makes comments about my makeup that are negative. I don’t care if she doesn’t feel like I am her mom, I know I don’t deserve that because I did not raise her, but I would like her to be thankful she had a wonderful life with great parents aND brothers and sisters, and that she is alive and well. That she may someday have a family and children of her own and that she was loved enough to not be aborted where all of that would not be possible.

Dear Birth Mom,


Every May 2 we celebrate my brother Josh’s arrival in our family. We adopted him as an infant in 1972. We have grown so much as a family and we are different, richer, more compassionate because he came to us. We learned a lot about racial issues and inequities, prejudice, as well as how we are all the same inside. Mostly, we just love him as he is and he loves us as we are. One time my dad and my brother were somewhere and had a weird experience with a service worker and my dad, without a moment’s thought, said “Well, blood’s thicker than water.” Josh said “Dad, did you hear what you just said?” He is family, he is blood, we are grateful. I hope you can find peace with yourself. Your child will be loved!

Words are not able to express the love a mother who chooses to put her child up for adoption. It is a sacrificial love that is deeper and purer than anything else that can be seen in this world.
