This is Susan. She has worked in the adoption world as a social worker for years, and especially cherished her time working alongside expectant and birth parents. 

"How has adoption changed?"

Adoption has changed a lot though the years. Today, birth parents have the opportunity to make all of the decisions for their adoption journey. You get to choose the family to raise your child, and you get to have a relationship with your child if you so wish. People are seeing that this openness benefits all those involved. Also, adoptive parents are strongly encouraged to communicate to their children from day 1 when they were adopted. So there's nothing to be ashamed of. And instead of being shrouded in shame and secrecy, adoption can now be celebrated as an incredible act of love and bravery.
