To My Birth Mom On My Wedding Day

December 02, 2025 2 min read

Recently, our friend Ramya got married! Amid all the hustle and bustle of planning, she felt it was important to find meaningful ways to honor her birth mother. She was a stunning bride, dressed in traditional attire from her birth country, and she reserved a special chair in her birth mother’s honor with the letter below placed on top.

She shared, “It was a really special day, and it was amazing getting to encourage all our friends and family to think about adoption and my story on our wedding day.”

Congratulations, Ramya, on your next chapter. We’re so grateful you shared your story—and this beautiful letter—with us.

Dear Mom,

I know you've dreamed of this day for me since the moment you found out about me.
I know you've been praying for the man God would bring to me.
I know you've been hoping I wouldn't make the mistakes you did.

Well, today is the day.
And more than anything, I wish you were here.

Today, I will walk down the aisle wearing a dress that represents our culture.
Today, I will honor you.
Today, I will honor our story and the part you played in it.

I will look in the mirror and say, "I look just like my mom."

Today, my parents will give me away, like you did, but different.
As I will always be theirs, like I will always be yours.
Maybe today they will feel a glimpse of what you felt all those years ago.

Today, I hope you wake up feeling a sense of peace that you haven't before.
Today, I hope you know your trauma ends with me. All babies born to me, I will keep.
Today, I will celebrate God's faithfulness to us as I lean into the ache of missing you.

Rest easy, it all worked out.
See you when I get there.
