Unplanned pregnancies happen and every person's story is different, personal and their own. As you watched the video, we hope it expanded your perspective and helped you recognize that we've all been impacted, either directly or indirectly, by the brave love of a birth mother who wanted the best for her child and chose adoption.

It takes a lot of humility, sacrifice and courage to choose adoption when confronted by an unplanned pregnancy. A woman’s decision to place for adoption is not easy and does not mean she did not want or love her child. But sometimes the world says otherwise.

I was adopted almost 40 years ago from Gladney. I just wanted to say thank you from all of us adopted kids. So often the sensationalism is that we are angry or feel abandoned… That was never the case for me. I have always been grateful to the girl who loved me so much to give me the best life she could – even if that wasn’t with her. How wonderful to be loved by the people surrounding you, but to also feel THAT loved by someone else out in the world! Thank you for loving “us” enough to make that sacrifice!

I know how hard it is to make the decision to place your child with another family because I watched my daughter make that decision for her child. We are also on the other side of adoption, we have adopted a boy from Poland.

Not only are you a very brave woman, you are strong…you demonstrate a strength and level of faith that, no matter your age, is admirable and very mature. You are a woman who has a very selfless love for your child and though you may not feel like a “mother” you will always be one as only a mother could know and demonstrate a love like this.

As someone who has had the privilege to assist many birth mothers to find the right family and make a loving plan for their little ones, I am in awe of the love shown in an adoption plan. Birth mothers who choose adoption override their hearts to do what they believe is the best for their children. The heart always says, “Take this baby and run!” It takes a special kind of love to choose to do what is best for the other person, the small one whose life they hold in their hands.

Happy Birth Mother’s Day to all the women who have made that sacrifice. May you find peace in your decision and know that there are others out there who appreciate your love.

Adoption is the most selfless choice a woman can make. I was lucky enough to be given life by one woman and my life was given to me by another. I don’t know who my birth mother is but I know that she made the right choice.
