"What’s the difference between open, semi-open and closed adoptions?"
A closed - or confidential - adoption is where no identifying information is shared and there is no ongoing relationship between the birth and adoptive family. In an open adoption, information and updates and even visits are shared. Think of a semi-open adoption as somewhere in between. It’s helpful to think of openness as a continuum with birth and adoptive families sharing relationships as unique as they are.
